Ohio FOP endorses Cordray re-election bid

State's largest law enforcement organization throws weight behind incumbent

June 20, 2010

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Attorney General Rich Cordray announced Tuesday that he has received the endorsement of the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police, capturing one of the most important endorsements in the race for Attorney General this fall. The FOP endorsed Cordray in both of his last two campaigns for statewide office, including his most recent campaign for attorney general in 2008.

"I am very grateful to receive the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police," Cordray said. "When I received their endorsement in 2008, I pledged as Attorney General to support local law enforcement in every way possible. Today's endorsement indicates that the men and women on the front lines of law enforcement believe that my administration's efforts are on track to help them to do their jobs, and I appreciate their support."

The Ohio FOP is home to nearly 26,000 law enforcement officers throughout the state, including the vast majority of local police department officers and county sheriff's deputies.

"We are pleased to endorse Attorney General Cordray for re-election," said Jay McDonald, Ohio FOP President. "We think he has done a terrific job for law enforcement across Ohio, and we look forward to another four years of working with him to keep our state moving forward."

As attorney general, Cordray is the top-ranking law enforcement official in Ohio. In this role, he is responsible for providing support services to local law enforcement agencies, including crime labs, forensic investigations, and special task forces.

Cordray has fought on the side of law enforcement on several key issues during his time as the state's attorney general, including successfully arguing against home rule residency requirements in the Ohio Supreme Court as well as representing the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund against the illegal business and accounting practices of failed Wall Street giant AIG.

The latter effort recently resulted in a landmark $1 billion settlement from AIG and related defendants on behalf of retirees and investors.

Independent poll shows momentum shifting toward Cordray

DeWine polling within margin of error after 20 years in Congressional spotlight

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Attorney General Rich Cordray's campaign today released a statement in response to a recent June 26-27, 2010 poll from Public Policy Polling showing former U.S. Senator Mike DeWine running neck and neck with Cordray:

"The first independent poll in this fall's election has shown that the supposed gap between Senator DeWine and Attorney General Cordray has vanished," said Adam Herman, Cordray's spokesman.

"Senator DeWine has been taking his internal poll around the state showing him with an 18 point lead since February. This poll shows that the momentum has shifted dramatically in our favor," Herman said.

"The fact that a 20-year Washington insider is running within the margin of error against a candidate who holds a multi-million dollar fundraising advantage and has yet to spend a dollar getting his name out shows that this race is poised for a Cordray victory this fall," Herman said.

The poll, released today, shows the two campaigns are polling within the margin of error (+/- 4.5 points). A full copy of the poll can be found at http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/hodgepodgetoplines.pdf.

As of the last reporting period, Cordray outraised DeWine by a 3 to 1 margin, having $3.01 million on hand to $1.23 million on hand for DeWine. Cordray has yet to start spending his campaign war chest on paid advertisements.

Attorney General Richard Cordray Continues to Hold Wall Street Accountable

June 7, 2010

COLUMBUS, Ohio: Attorney General Richard Cordray recently delivered a policy speech at the Columbus Metropolitan Club to address the financial crisis brought on, in large part, by the wrongdoings and misconduct of Wall Street, and he addressed the active role that his office is taking to protect and fight for Ohioans.

"No matter what happens in Washington, I pledge to the people of Ohio that I will use my office to stand up for them against the forces that wrecked our economy and caused so much pain for so many," said Cordray. "I know that we alone cannot clean up the mess on Wall Street and level the economic playing field. But, Ohio can play its part to help push the country in a different direction."

Following the economic collapse of 2008, we find ourselves in trying times that are highlighted by income inequality, stagnating wages, and ballooning debt--the biggest challenge we face is finding ways to restore economic security and growth. Attorney General Richard Cordray continues the fight to hold Wall Street accountable.

This great country was founded with hope for the prosperity of all people to lead and live stable and secure lives. But, at certain times in our history, powerful forces have distorted the marketplace by tipping the economic and political system in their favor at the expense of a fair and just society that maintains broad opportunity for all.

As Attorney General, Richard Cordray represents Ohio's five public pension systems and many others that were hurt by the wrongdoings of Wall Street. During his tenure, he has pursued eight major lawsuits against Wall Street defendants, including AIG, Bank of America, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Merrill Lynch, Marsh and the national credit rating agencies. Through these lawsuits, over 2 billion dollars was recovered for investors and retirees in 2009, with some of the biggest lawsuits yet to be resolved. The cases are typically filed as class action lawsuits, with Cordray representing not only the Ohio public pension systems, but everyone who will now have to work longer and harder before they are able to retire, because of the misconduct on Wall Street.

"No privileged few are entitled to play by any different set of rules than the rest of us," stated Cordray. "All are bound to comply with the law, and if they violate the law and harm others as a result, then they must be held responsible to pay compensation for the harm they have done."

Throughout his tenure, Attorney General Richard Cordray has highlighted the contrast between Ohio Values and Wall Street Values. Attorney General Cordray continues to press the fight to stand up for the citizens of the great State of Ohio.
